Our Essential Services

During your child’s visit, we gently clean their teeth while checking for cavities, gum issues, or developmental concerns. Our exams are interactive and child-led, so your little one feels confident and calm throughout the experience.
Digital X-Ray Guidelines by Age
What to expect at every stage of your child’s growth
We believe in using diagnostic X-rays thoughtfully and only when necessary to support your child’s oral health. Here’s how we approach digital X-rays at different stages:
Our Safety Promise
We use low-radiation digital X-rays and explain every step to keep kids feeling safe, supported, and informed.

Ages 0–3
Most little ones under age 3 don’t need X-rays unless there’s a specific concern, such as trauma or suspected decay. We focus on gentle, positive dental visits during this stage.

Ages 4–6
We typically take:
- 2 occlusal images (to view developing front teeth)
- 2 bitewings (to check for early cavities between back teeth)
These are usually done once a year—unless your child is at higher risk for cavities.

Ages 7–12
With permanent teeth coming in, we may take:
- Annual bitewing X-rays
- Periapical images as needed
- A panoramic X-ray around age 8–9 to evaluate growth, spacing, and future orthodontic needs

Ages 13+
At this stage, your child may need:
- A full-mouth X-ray series (FMX) for orthodontic planning or post-treatment assessment
- Another panoramic image to monitor jaw development and wisdom teeth
Frequently Asked Questions
How often does my child visit the dentist for preventive care?
Most families bring their child in every six months for preventive visits. Consistent checkups help keep little smiles healthy, catch small issues early, and make dental care a positive, stress-free experience. For some children—especially those with a higher risk of cavities or special needs—more frequent visits can give their teeth the extra support they need to stay strong and healthy.
Is fluoride safe for my child?
Yes! Fluoride is a safe and effective way to strengthen your child’s enamel and protect their teeth from cavities. At our practice, fluoride treatments are optional. For families who prefer a fluoride-free approach, we’re happy to offer Hydroxyapatite as a natural alternative.
How often will my child need x-rays?
We believe in using diagnostic X-rays thoughtfully and only when necessary to support your child’s oral health. Every child is different, so how often we recommend x-rays depends on their age, risk for cavities, and stage of dental development. For most children, we typically take routine x-rays once a year to check for cavities between the teeth.
At what age should my child get sealants?
Most children get sealants when their first permanent molars fully come in, around age 6, and again around age 12 when their second molars erupt.
